Why Blog?

The first Blog was written for overseas students studying SQA Higher Physics to make it easy for them to find the websites I was recommending. I attempted, unsuccessfully, to get them contribute. As soon as a photo of a class activity such was included the number of hits from all over the world increased as family and friends were sent the link.
When I started the Action Research it occured to me that Blogging might have some potential for Numeracy classes.

The main uses of the Blog are to:
  • save time by making it easier to give web addresses.
  • enable students arriving late to 'get up to speed' with little input from the lecturer.
  • encourage students to use recommended websites outside of timetabled class time.
  • enable students who are absent to catch up before the next class.
  • add some fun to a subject which most students would rather not study.
  • give links to articles, news and sites relevant to the student's area of study.
  • link survey sites (surveymonkey) which makes student feedback immediate.
  • enable 'just-in-time' lessons to run smoothly

This list is expected to grow.
