I use blogs with most classes and I am aware that for some students internet access at home is prohibitively expensive. Even although access in the new college is excellent I am convinced that students who do not have web access at home are seriously disadvantaged. The psychological effect of not having web access can undermine their confidence.
I have been using the Vodafone 3G dongle for about 8 months and have found it excellent. At the moment it costs £15.00 per month. A laptop can be purchased for as little as £200. If the college bought laptop and took out a contract a laptop could be lent out or hired to students. Simply knowing that they could borrow a laptop might remove the feeling that they are losing out. It might be worth a try.
